GP Advisor Application

We are glad that you have decided to apply to be an advisor for a Global Partnership Trip for the 2008-2009 school year.  Please have your North Park ID card, insurance information, and passport (for international trips) available before you start filling out the application.  There is a $30 application fee that goes towards your pre-trip orientation; please have your credit card handy to pay the fee after you fill out the application.  Please respond to all the questions.  We hope this is just the beginning to your journey with Global Partnerships.

Being a trip advisor is a great opportunity to share the love of Christ with students from North Park University and disciple young leaders.  Trip advisors are an integral part of the GP leadership team.  Although you will not facilitate meetings or delegate tasks, your role as a “behind the scenes” leader is an important one.  One of the advisor’s primary roles is to mentor the two student leaders and encourage them to develop leadership strengths and follow through on their responsibilities.  Advisors are also responsible during emergency and crisis situations.   Sometimes advisors are also given accounting responsibilities, but this can be decided amongst leaders.

Advisors are required to attend some leadership training meetings, as well as all pre-trip meetings and post-trip meetings.  The commitment is about 3 hrs a week for 8-10 weeks prior to the trip and 2 weeks after the trip, and must be present during the entire duration of the trip.  They are also required to attend the GP team retreat on either October 4th (Winter Trips) or January 17th (Spring and Summer trips.)

Advisors are responsible for covering their trip costs.  Seminary students are eligible for grants for up to 85% of their trip costs.  In order to keep costs for students to a minimum, staff and faculty are not promised any special funding and will assume the full cost of the trip unless otherwise discussed.

Do you agree to commit your time and energy to developing your leaders and connecting with the rest of the team?  Yes  No

Trip Agreement Stipulations

Following are the trip agreement stipulations. Please answer each of the stipulations.

1. Meetings - Attend all pre-trip, on-site, and post-trip meetings and activities, including the mandatory trip orientation on either October 4th (Winter Trips) or January 17th (Spring and Summer trips.)  Exceptions to this may be granted on a case by case basis by the trip leader and only for extenuating circumstances.

2. Liability - Behave in ways that are responsible, mature and representative of the best of North Park University. This means compliance with all applicable state, federal, and international laws as well as the North Park University Student Handbook. This includes the no-alcohol policy during college sponsored events. Ignorance of a law is not an excuse or defense. If your behavior is unacceptable or in violation of this agreement, the trip leaders (in consultation with the trip advisor) may terminate your participation in this trip. Termination means you must find your own way home at your own expense, your lodging and reservations will be canceled, and you will not receive a refund of any of your trip fees.

3. Participation - Initiate and participate in activities that help build community, support learning and allow for personal growth. This may include organizing community meals, leading reflections (i.e., group journals, ecumenical prayer, and discussions), planning games or outings, etc. Stick with the group. Any activities done outside of the structured trip activities are at your own risk.

4. Reorientation – As an individual or with your group, develop and implement a project to educate others about your experience and what you have learned. Projects could include a video, a slide show, a picture display, assisting with recruitment, doing presentations, etc...

5. Payment – Payment is in three tiers.  Please turn in 10% of your trip costs within 10 days of acceptance.  Another 25% will be due one month after acceptance.  The final 65% is due on the date specified on the trip webpage (usually one week before your trip.)  You will not be eligible to attend the trip unless you have paid/raised the full amount for the trip.

6. Cancellation – If for some reason you cannot attend the trip, you are still responsible to pay for any costs that have already incurred.

Answering the 6 areas above affirmatively indicates my agreement and understanding of the responsibilities I am undertaking as a trip participant. I also personally assume any risks involved in activities outside of the trip program. Submitting this Trip Agreement form online indicates that I have carefully read and agree to the above conditions.
