The Center for Justice Ministries seeks to integrate the great commandment "Love the Lord with all your heart and mind and your neighbor as yourself" and the great commission "Go ye into the world and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to do all I have told you," challenging us to both proclaim the good news and to be the good news to those in need.
The Center for Justice Ministries at North Park Theological Seminary works with the Evangelical Covenant Church Office of Compassion and Justice to help Christian Leaders think theologically about the development and delivery of ministries of compassion and justice. The Center for Justice Ministries seeks to establish concerns for justice as central to ministry, seminary education and church practice.
Mission
Our mission is to offer educational opportunities to equip seminarians, pastors, and church members to praise and honor God by "doing what is fair, right, and just," in the words of Proverbs 1:3.
We hope to be a bridge between the seminary, the church and the public arena -- challenging all to "Bridge the Gap" of injustice by their choices, their thinking, their work, and their life of Faith in Christ.
Our aim is to promote a deeper understanding and study of these issues in order to empower people to be engaged in transformative acts inside the church and in the world.
Services We Provide
The Center is a valuable teaching resource for the North Park campus community. Our endeavor is to be a place of connection and resource for the Evangelical Covenant Church, students and local churches in need of assistance implementing ministries of justice. That connection takes place through:
- Certificate in Justice Ministries
- Workshops
- Mini-conferences
- Publications and other resources
- Training Sessions
- Domestic and global trips
- Summer institutes
- Internships
Who We Serve
We offer our expertise to a variety of people involved in church life, including students at North Park Theological Seminary, other seminaries, and ministers in the field. The Center is available to provide consultation, workshops, and worship experiences in your church, organization, and ministry. Courses offered through the Center help students relate to the biblical and theological texts from a social justice perspective because God is concerned about all of humanity and the wholeness of creation.
