The Christian Church Responds

Pastor Pablo Anabalon has served as pastor at Iglesia del Pacto Evangelico Eagle Rock in Los Angeles, California for over 10 years.
He is also a licensed psychologist and teacher at Centro Hispano de Estudios Teologicos (CHET), Fuller Theological Seminary and Azusa Pacific University. Pastor Anabalon will be available to interact on the subject of immigration and how it relates to evangelism, justice ministries, pastoral care and missions. He will also share how immigration has impacted his congregation, the nation and the Christian church. Later in the day, a roundtable discussion on these issues will be held at the Galter Life Center in Studio 4 at
3:00 p.m. with denominational and institutional leaders.

What Do Faith and Science Have to Do with One Another? Dr. Petters is an accomplished Professor of Mathematics, Physics and Business Administration at Duke University in Durham, NC. He was the first to develop the mathematical theory of gravitational lensing which brought powerful methods from pure mathmatics to bear on astronony. Dr. Petters is the founder of the Petters Research Institute in Belize to promote the study of science in Central America.

Dr. MARION CARSON

Dr. Marion Carson will be speaking on the theme of her new book The Pastoral Care of People with Mental Health Problems (2008). She is Professor of New Testament and Pastoral Care at International Christian College, Glasgow, Scotland. She was formerly a psychiatric nurse, hence her unusal combination of expertise.

FORUM: ED GILBREATH: Reconciliation Blues: A Black Evangelical's Inside View of White Christianity

Ed Gilbreath gives a fresh and insightful exploration of the current state of race relations in the church. In his book Reconciliation Blues he shares his experience as a black evangelical and his journey of faith and discovery from one who has gone to school, work and worshipped in predominately white evangelical settings for much of his life. In addition to his own story, he interviewed dozens of other black evangelicals who have had similar experiences. Being the "first" or "only" black can be a wild and sometimes lonely adventure.

FORUM: EDDIE GLAUDE, JR. : Faith and Racism

Dr. Eddie Glaude has built a reputation as a gifted scholar and teacher. A founding member and Senior Fellow of the Jamestown Project, he's also an associate professor at Princeton University, with research interests that include African American religious history and its place in American public life. Glaude was mentored by Dr. Cornel West as a Princeton grad student and has written/edited several books. In a Shade of Blue: Pragmatism and the Politics of Black America is his latest.
