Special Offerings: Spiritual Formation

North Park Theological Seminary believes that the development of your intellectual abilities is enhanced by the development of your spiritual life. Spiritual formation at North Park helps you keep this balance during your studies at the Seminary and in your future ministry. You will learn the inner life of spiritual disciplines and the outer life of discipleship—and how the two are integrally connected. This is part of North Park's commitment to develop your whole person for ministry.

A leader among evangelical seminaries in spiritual formation, North Park's distinctive program promotes spiritual growth in both the classroom and the community.

Spiritual Formation in Courses

In addition to being integrated throughout the whole curriculum, spiritual formation is the focus of several courses offered at the Seminary.

Spiritual Formation in the Community

Chapels are held three times a week and include communion, prayer services, praise and worship, and healing services.
Small class sizes and North Park's favorable student-to-faculty ratio provide the opportunity for close mentoring relationships between professors and students.
On-campus housing fosters relationships of support and accountability among students.
Academic lecture series by North Park professors and visiting scholars and pastors focus on the life and practice of ministry.
Formal and information student gatherings offer prayer, worship, fellowship, and fun.
Testing and counseling services promote spiritual and psychological health.

Spiritual Formation Curriculum Options

Spiritual Formation courses are part of all degree programs and ministry certificates at the Seminary. Options for directed study in Spiritual Formation include:

Major emphasis within the Master of Divinity and the Master of Arts in Theological Studies
Spiritual Formation ministry certificates
Spiritual Formation courses taken by non-degree or visiting students for personal enrichment.
Most courses include confidential peer groups that discuss course materials and students' spiritual lives.  In addition, all students meet with professors during their first and last years of study to provide spiritual and emotional support in developing an understanding of one's life and faith and calling.
