Finding Books:
The general collection is on the 2nd and 3rd floor. You can check these books out of the library. The reference books and magazines are on the first floor and cannot be checked out of the library. Movies are on the lower level. You can check most of these out of the library.
- At library website and click on catalog/books.
- To do a Quick Search, type keywords into the box connected by "+."
Example: American +education +college
- Make sure that "any word anywhere" is selected in the box to the right side.
- A list of all the items containing those words will appear.
- Click on the Search button.
If the Brandel Library doesn't have the books that you want, search I-Share to see which other libraries might have them. Make sure that when you request these books, you use your library borrower ID (starts with 27012) in the form provided. For more help in searching the online catalog, see here.
Finding Database Articles:
Databases give you access to articles. They are available on campus and off. Not all articles are full-text.
Academic Search Premier is a general databases, and offers several educational articles, both in research journals and in popular magazines and newspapers.
Chicago Tribune provides access to full-text newspaper articles.
Credo is a collection of full-text, online reference books and encyclopedias.
WilsonSelectPlus is similar in content to Academic Search Premier, but is entirely full-text.
If you see the "find full text" box, it does not mean that the article is full-text in that database. Click on the box to find out if the NPU or other Illinois libraries own the journal, or if it is full-text in another database. It will also allow you to click on interlibrary loan. Just fill in your information and we will contact you when your article arrives.
