Leadership Opportunities
Residence Life values developing student leaders. We value leadership development that focuses on servant leadership, responsibility and ownership, vision and voice, and goals. Residence Life offers students a few different leadership opportunities – Resident Assistant, Desk Manager, and Desk Attendant.
Resident Assistant
Each living area has Resident Assistants (RAs) who oversee the community development of between 20 and 50 residents. Resident Assistants assist the Resident Director in creating and maintaining a “living-learning” environment in the various living areas at North Park. Resident Assistants encourage opportunities for academic study and growth, establish community on the floor and in the residence hall, provide an environment that encourages personal development and growth and help foster positive interaction among residents. Resident Assistants work as a team and report to the Resident Director of the living area.
Desk Manager
Desk Managers (DMs) are student workers who oversee the Desk Attendants for each living area with a front desk (Anderson, Burgh, Ohlson, Park North, and Sohlberg). Desk Managers create and coordinate the schedule for the Desk Attendants. Desk Managers maintain the organization and cleanliness of the desk as well as remain up-to-date on the various logs Desk Attendants record. They also sit desk themselves.
Desk Attendant
Desk Attendants (DAs) sit at the front desk of the four traditional residence halls as well as at the front desk of Park North, a leadership development intentional learning community. Desk Attendants exist to maintain the safety of those who reside in the living areas, monitor who exits and enters the buildings, and answer any questions or address any concerns residents may have. A Desk Attendant sits at each desk 24 hours, 7 days a week anytime that students are living in the halls.
