About NPU Sports

At North Park, we compete to win. Our athletes are coached by individuals committed to your athletic and academic success. They are supported by loyal, die-hard Viking fans. And more importantly, our athletes can reach and often exceed their academic goals while participating in sports. North Park student-athletes graduate to become teachers, doctors, and business people. Wherever you have your sights set, North Park faculty and coaches will work with you to get you there.

Throughout the years, North Park’s intercollegiate athletics program has competed with—and beaten— the very best.

  • Our men’s basketball team gained national attention and local acclaim by being crowned NCAA Division III champions five times. The Viking men’s basketball team won its first title in 1978 and repeated the feat the next two years in 1979 and 1980. Again in 1985 and 1987, the Vikings achieved their fourth and fifth national championships. Only four other NCAA college basketball programs in any Division have matched this championship run.
  • The women's rowing team have earned gold, silver, and bronze medals in their first three years of competition at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta, a national rowing competition. This feat has been achieved by very few teams in the sport of rowing.
  • The men's soccer team was crowned CCIW Champions in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and have seen 18 players earn All-Conference honors and eight earn All Region in their championship seasons, as well as taking the North Park Senior Athlete of the Year Award for three consecutive years. The 2005 team was ranked #24 in the country in win percentage.
  • The men's baseball program reached the CCIW Tournament in 2005, and a rookie coach posted a 1300% increase in win percentage on the season.
  • The women's basketball team has won eight tournament championships since 2003 in six states including California and New York.

Some of North Park’s very best students are athletes.

  • The women's basketball team has been recognized as an Academic Top 25 Team in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). There are over 430 teams that are eligible for this recognition.
  • The women's rowing team has had twelve rowers named CRCA National Scholar Athletes in its first three years of competition.
  • The men's soccer team received the NSCAA Academic Award for 2004, 2005 and 2006.
  • There were over 65 Academic All Conference, nine Academic All Region, and five Academic All Americans that counted themselves as proud to be North Park student-athletes in the 2006-2007 season.
