Health and Safety

North Park University is proud to be a university located in an urban setting! With this setting, comes the important responsibility of maintaining the health and safety of all of our students, especially as pertains to those who live on-campus. We work to ensure students’ health and safety through campus security and residence hall front desks, bi-yearly health and safety inspections, and On Duty Residence Life staff who respond to emergencies and any concerns that arise throughout the year.

Health and Safety Inspections

Residence Directors and Resident Assistants conduct routine Health & Safety Inspections once a semester in each living area in order to ensure the health and safety of North Park’s on-campus residents.

Health and Safety Related Issues

  • Excessively dirty or unhealthy rooms or apartments
  • No-no appliances that are safety concerns (microwaves in rooms, air conditioners, space heaters, etc.)
  • High intensity lights/bulbs
  • Rooms in need of health/safety related maintenance issues
  • Flammables (will be confiscated)
  • Presence of all university furniture
  • Unsafe lofts (residents may ask their RD if they have questions)

We do not specifically search for student conduct violations, but if we observe violations during the inspection, we will take disciplinary action.

Residence Life staff notifies residents about the Health and Safety Inspections weeks in advance through email, flyers, and posters. This communication reminds residents of the health and safety related issues we look for and that the RD and an RA will enter their rooms whether or not someone is home to complete the inspection unless a resident has requested a separate appointment time. If a resident would like to make an appointment to be present during the Health and Safety Inspection, he/she can contact his/her RA.
