About Mathematics and Statistics
Welcome to the Mathematics Department at North Park University!
Our Goals
Integrate: We seek to integrate faith and logic so our rational minds and spiritual souls will augment and strengthen each other.
Optimize: We maximize our potential by developing valuable and widely applicable skills: rigorous analytical thought processes, quantitative skills, and precise communication skills, among others.
Function: We apply what we learn in significant ways and in service to those around us.
What is the value of studying mathematics?
Personal Development: Mathematicians use rigorous logic which yields great analytical skills and clear thinking for:
- Solving intellectual problems
- Creating, understanding, and critiquing arguments
- Communicating complex ideas
- Improving aesthetic appreciation
Understanding the World: Intelligible aspects of the world are rational, our specialty. Mathematics is one of four methods of inquiry and an essential complement to the others.
Meeting God: The four original liberal arts were music, astronomy, algebra, and geometry, selected for their outstanding ability to display God’s wisdom, beauty, and might. Read more...
Career: A degree in mathematics can lead to a good career in actuarial science, computers, engineering, financial analysis, investment, law, medicine, science, statistics, and teaching.
